The International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda is observed every year on April 7, the date the genocide began in 1994. Over roughly 100 days, hundreds of thousands of Tutsi, along with moderate Hutu and others who opposed the genocide, were murdered. The United Nations established the day so that the world can remember the victims, honor the survivors, and reflect on the failure to prevent the atrocity.
