Global Dignity Day is observed on the third Wednesday of October to promote the idea that every person deserves to be treated with dignity. The initiative was founded in 2005 by Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Finnish philosopher Pekka Himanen, and entrepreneur John Hope Bryant. Each year, volunteers, teachers, and community leaders visit schools and youth groups in many countries to lead short lessons and discussions about what dignity means, how to respect it in others, and how to protect it in ourselves. The day encourages young people to think about their values, their communities, and the way they treat the people around them, and it reminds us that respect and human dignity are the foundation of a fair and peaceful society.
