October 15th, 2026

The International Day of Rural Women, observed on October 15, recognizes the essential role that rural women and girls play in agriculture, food security, nutrition, and the economic life of their communities. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007 and first observed in 2008, the day also draws attention to the challenges many of them face, including limited access to land, credit, education, health care, and decision-making. Events and campaigns call for equal opportunities and stronger rights for rural women. Supporting them benefits entire families and strengthens efforts to reduce poverty and hunger around the world.
