World Sight Day is observed on the second Thursday of October to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. Coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness with the support of the World Health Organization, it encourages people to get regular eye exams and urges governments and organizations to expand access to eye care. A large share of vision loss around the world could be prevented or treated, so the day is used to promote screening, education, and fundraising. It is a good moment to schedule an eye check-up and to support the people and programs working to protect sight.

World Migratory Bird Day is a global awareness campaign dedicated to protecting migratory birds and the habitats they depend on. It is celebrated twice a year, in May and October, to reflect the different peaks of bird migration across the hemispheres. Each year has a theme, and communities mark the day with bird walks, citizen science counts, school programs, and conservation events. The day highlights threats such as habitat loss, light pollution, and climate change, and encourages people everywhere to help keep these long-distance travelers safe on their journeys.

World Standards Day, held on October 14, honors the experts around the world who develop the technical standards that make products, services, and systems safe, reliable, and compatible. It is celebrated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and it has been observed since 1970. The date recalls the 1946 meeting in London where delegates from 25 countries agreed to create ISO. From electrical plugs to food safety and internet protocols, standards quietly shape everyday life, and the day highlights how they support trade, safety, innovation, and sustainable development.
