June 19th, 2027

Juneteenth National Independence Day, observed on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Celebrated in Black communities for generations, Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. Today it is marked with parades, cookouts, music, readings, and educational events that honor African American history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom and equality.

The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is observed to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence and to honor the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world. This day emphasizes the urgency of addressing sexual violence in conflict, holding perpetrators accountable, and ensuring justice for victims. Events and activities include vigils, art exhibitions, discussions, and awareness campaigns that focus on supporting survivors, preventing sexual violence, and integrating this issue into global peace and security efforts. The observance serves as a platform to advocate for the implementation of concrete actions against sexual violence in conflicts, including legal and policy reforms. It's a day to reaffirm international commitment to a world free from conflict-related sexual violence and to stand in solidarity with survivors in their journey towards healing and empowerment.
