This day is intended to highlight the importance of respect for human rights and the commitment of states and societies in this area. Human rights are the foundation of freedom, justice and peace. International Human Rights Day reminds us to protect and promote these rights, and to combat abuses around the world. The day also serves as inspiration for action to create a more just and equal society where every person can live with dignity and freedom.

The historical significance of Hanukkah stems from the victory of Jewish rebels called the Maccabees over Syrian invaders and the restoration of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. This event is also associated with a miracle when a small amount of oil intended to consecrate the menorah (seven armies) burned for eight days instead of one, which made it possible to prepare new oil. Hanukkah is a time of joy, fellowship, and remembrance of important events in the history of the Jewish people. This holiday celebrates the spiritual heritage that is passed down from generation to generation and calls for light, hope and solidarity in dark times.
